If you are considering having LASIK, or laser eye surgery the wait was well worth it. Earlier Lasik procedures required a physical blade to cut the outside layer of the eye. The latest "All Laser" system eliminates much of the discomfort associated with "having you eyeball cut with a knife".
There seems to be two levels of marketing in the laser eye surgery market in the NJ and New York area. Those that got in early have generally gained a good reputation and are incredibly able to charge up to 5 times more than discounters that offer essentially the same procedure.
Not all people are candidates for Lasik. Some people don't have a thick enough cornea which is the soon to be formed "lens area" tissue. If you go with a low end company you may want to make sure you are a candidate first from an established leader. Ask your eye doctor or make sure she (or he) is board certified.
