SECAUCUS — A Connecticut 12-year-old crashed his mother’s rental car and he and his two brothers are now facing charges, authorities said.
Police on patrol at 4:20 a.m. on April 18 found a Nissan Versa abandoned at 3 Millcreek Dr. The car appeared to have been in an accident, Secaucus police Capt. Dennis Miller said.
Police had trouble locating the person responsible for the car since it was a rental, but at 12:52 p.m. the vehicle was reported stolen from the nearby La Quinta hotel, Miller said.
At the hotel, a Waterbury, Connecticut woman told police that her three kids — a 12- and 14-year-old, and 18-year-old Jordan Walker — took the rental vehicle without her permission and crashed it, Miller said.
The 12-year old was charged with operating the stolen vehicle, while Walker and the 14-year-old were charged with stealing the car and Mr. Walker was additionally charged with use of juvenile to commit a crime, Miller said. All three were released.
