Miss America yanks N.J. pageant’s license, throwing congeniality out the window

State pageant directors have been critical of Miss America leaders, including Gretchen Carlson. Now, executives are moving to replace the officials.

In the weeks before the 2018 Miss America in September, various factions of the pageant faithful were at war over changes to the traditional Atlantic City event implemented by new pageant leaders.

Somehow, the pageant weathered the drama long enough to crown Miss New York, Nia Franklin, onstage at Boardwalk Hall.
