N.J. governor race 2025: Republican voter registrations grow ahead of packed primary

New Jersey is headed into one of its most packed primary elections in decades next week, with nearly a dozen candidates vying to be their party’s top pick for governor.

Winners in Tuesday’s primary will secure the Democratic and Republican nominations to run in November’s general election to replace outgoing Gov. Phil Murphy. All 80 seats in the state Assembly are also on the ballot along with local races.

There were more than 6.57 million registered voters in New Jersey as of June 1, new state data shows. Of those, more than 4.15 million voters are registered with a political party. (See a county-by-county breakdown below.)
