UPDATE 8:16 p.m.: The rain already has slowed down a lot and the grounds crew just rolled the tarp off the infield.

KANSAS CITY — With Aaron Judge resting for the first time this season, the Yankees’ season finale against the Royals on Thursday night was moving along quickly with no one scoring through five innings.

Then it started raining while the Yankees mounted a sixth-inning rally and the game was stopped at 7:59 p.m., Central time.

The tarp was rolled onto the Kauffman Stadium infield while the Royals were bringing in reliever Angel Lugo to replace starter Seth Lugo after a two-out walk left the Yankees with two on base for the first time.

Yankees rookie Will Warren held the Royals scoreless on three hits through five innings.
