E. Thomas Brennan III

On the afternoon of May 21, 2025, our beloved Tom Brennan passed away peacefully from natural causes at his home in Spring Lake Heights, NJ. He was 50 years of age. Tom was born to E. Thomas Brennan, Jr. and Susan Mackay (formerly Brennan) and raised with his younger sister of three years in Sea Girt, NJ. Growing up, he was curious and often mischievous, with a penchant for tomfoolery. Tom had great talent and an incredible drive for sports, becoming an accomplished swimmer at an early age, competing for his Christian Brothers Academy high school and Villanova University swim teams while working and competing as a lifeguard at the Jersey shore for many summers. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics from Villanova University and a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Johns Hopkins University, going on to work for the U.S. Departments of Commerce and then Labor for several years.
As Tom’s family grew, he welcomed his parents’ new spouses and second younger sister of 24 years into his heart. He was loved dearly and close to his family whom he joined for family dinners nearly every night in his later years. Tom was a kind soul with a huge heart and a quick wit. He loved spending time with his family, sharing good food and humor, and making his sisters laugh whenever possible. Later in life Tom dealt with mental illness with incredible courage. His Dad always told him, “Tom, you are my hero”.
He is survived by his mother Sue Mackay (Don Mackay), father Tom Brennan (Karen McGinley), and sisters Molly Brennan-Halmos (Tom Halmos) and Eliza McGinley. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Mark’s RC Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt, on Thursday, June 5th at 9:30am.
