Don Bosco’s Dowd finds new gear, wins 1,600 at Non-Public A championship

Jack Dowd fell behind during the final lap of the 1,600 on Saturday afternoon.
The Don Bosco Prep senior hit the final curve trailing Christian Brothers’ Joe Barrett and waited for the perfect opportunity to make his final move.
“I didn’t fully know until like 25 meters and even then, I was still a little doubtful,” Dowd said.
To finish this race, he knew he had to take it to another level — and that is exactly what he did.
“I always knew my kick was one of my strengths,” Dowd said.
As the track straightened out in the final stretch of the race, Dowd began to sprint his way to the end, passing Barrett in the process, and crossing the finish line first with a time of 4:14.46 to win the 1,600 title during the Non-Public A championships at Stockton University in Galloway.
