MANASQUAN — Officials from Monmouth County presented a potential rendering for Manasquan’s problematic Main Street intersection at a meeting of the mayor and council on Monday night. The preferred alternative revealed by Monmouth County, the entity responsible for 100% of the $1.5 million project, is a compact roundabout.
The compact roundabout would connect Main Street to County Route 20 (Broad and South streets). The proposed traffic improvements include widening the intersection for a one-lane egg-shaped roundabout that would eliminate the need for left turns at the intersection.
The borough’s acquisition of the Sullivan’s Service Center property last July at the corner creates the space to re-work the intersection.
