SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — At the July 21 council meeting, residents of Shore Road expressed concern over placement of the new handicap-friendly kayak launch on Wreck Pond, which was moved by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) from its original location across from a vacant lot and now faces residents’ homes.
Residents showed the council a copy of a notice dated March, 2024 from the DEP notifying them that the project plans for the floating dock with a kayak launch that would extend slightly into Wreck Pond was underway, and an inspection was to be done of the surrounding area of about 150 feet.
The dock project was funded from a Monmouth County Open Space Program grant and has been ongoing for about four years, according to Borough Administrator John Barrett.
