Beach renourishment concludes in Bay Head – Star News Group

BAY HEAD — After a month and a half, the Bay Head beach renourishment was completed this week. 

The project, which began on June 11 and concluded on July 22, required 1,000-foot sections of Bay Head’s beach to be closed at any given time. 

The work began in October 2024, when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company of Houston, Texas for $73.5 million to complete periodic nourishment of the beach. The base contract called for dredging and placing 2.1 million cubic yards of sand onto the beaches. 

Mayor Bill Curtis told The Ocean Star, “I am very pleased that Great Lakes is finished with Bay Head except for a few more punch list items. Once started, they went fast and very efficiently.”
