(FREEHOLD, NJ) — As part of its monthly reading series, Center Players of Freehold will present the New Jersey premiere reading of award-winning playwright Gary Morgenstein’s romantic dramedy Walking Charlie at The American Hotel (18-20 East Main Street) in Freehold on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 7:00pm. Suggested donation is $5.

Set in contemporary Brooklyn, the romantic dramedy Walking Charlie is about the relationship between a political immigrant who, along with her 20-something daughter, fled the Venezuelan dictatorship, and a businessman struggling to keep her family-run door factory alive, who are brought together by a pug dog named Charlie.

Directed by Michele Coppolino, the cast stars Arthur Gregory Pugh; Judi Kuldinow; Jackie Kusher; Stefani Zamora and Juan Solano, with stage directions by Jacynth Apora.

Previously, Center Players of Freehold has produced two of Morgenstein’s works:  the Perry Award-winning A Tomato Can’t Grow in the Bronx and A Black and White Cookie, both directed by Bernice Garfield-Szita.

The mission of Center Players, Inc. is to bring enrichment through the performing arts to the diverse community it serves. To achieve this goal, the organization will conduct activities and programs to educate and entertain its patrons, and provide actors, directors and other creative people the opportunity to pursue their craft.
