Report, from NJ Spotlight News’ John Reitmeyer:

“Democrats who control the Legislature introduced a budget and then rushed it through committees late Friday, advancing a record $58.8 billion spending plan backed by another batch of tax hikes.

“This year, smokers, gamblers and people selling high-dollar properties will be hit with higher state taxes, all to help support the latest year-over-year spending increase due to be enacted during Gov. Phil Murphy’s tenure.

“The fiscal year 2026 budget negotiated by Murphy and fellow Democratic legislative leaders calls for increased allocations for mass transit, public-worker pensions, direct property-tax relief and K-12 public school aid, among other areas.”
