Check this list, and you’ll find the perfect thing to do with your kids each and every day. Be sure to check our local summer guides for more ideas to keep you busy in June and all summer long.

June 2 – Rocky Road Day

Rocky Road was invented in 1929 and given its name to cheer people up during the Great Depression. What is it? Marshmallows and nuts (it started as walnuts and now is usually toasted almonds) to chocolate ice cream. Here’s our favorite recipe for making ice cream in a bag or jar at home. To this base, you can simply add chocolate syrup, shake, and then fold in mini-marshmallows and nuts!

June 3 – World Bicycle Day

Get out there and see the world on wheels for World Bicycle Day. If you’ve got a little one who hasn’t learned yet, we’ve rounded up 8 Tips To Teach Kids to Ride a Bike.

June 8 –  National Kids Day

Sure, to parents, every day feels like Kids Day. But remember how powerless it could feel, being a kid who never got to make decisions? So, for National Yes Day, have a “Yes Day,” which is a day where kids set the agenda and parents have to say yes!

Feel free to set ground rules for your kids, I always do! (Like, we can’t only eat sugar, can’t spend money we don’t have, and everything has to be safe.)

June 10 –  Black Cow Day

Some people make a Black Cow with root beer, but to me, that’s just a root beer float. Here’s how my Grandma taught me to make her favorite summer treat:

  1. Drizzle 2 Tablespoons of chocolate syrup around the inside of a tall glass.
  2. Pour in one cup of Coca-Cola.
  3. Add one big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
  4. Let it melt for about 1 minute before drinking the Coke with a straw and then eating the ice cream with a spoon!

To celebrate, with kids of all ages, re-read the book, and make a dinner for the Very Hungry Caterpillar. It should have: one apple, two pears, three plums, four strawberries, and five oranges in a fruit salad.
