Facing tariffs, Canadian premier says Trump ‘wants to hurt’ Americans

Ontario Premier Doug Ford minced no words when asked about Canada’s general impression of President Donald Trump.
Trump’s sweeping tariffs took effect on Thursday just after midnight ET on dozens of countries, starting at a baseline rate of 10%. The overall average effective tariff rate increased to greater than 18% — the highest tax on foreign goods since 1934, according to Yale Budget Lab, a nonpartisan policy research center.
Meanwhile, full agreements have yet to be reached with some of the top U.S. trading partners, including Canada, which faces a 35% tariff.
While speaking with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Ford called Trump “probably the most disliked politician in the world” among Canadians.
