Former Livingston hotel site becoming 280-unit apartment complex

A former hotel and bank site in Essex County is being redeveloped into two apartment buildings, part of a growing number of residential projects across New Jersey led by Kushner Companies.

The development, known as Livana, broke ground June 26 in Livingston. It is located on the site where the Westminster Hotel once stood at 550 West Mt. Pleasant Ave.

The Westminster Hotel, previously owned by Kushner, first opened in 2003. The 9-acre site also includes an adjacent lot that housed the former Somerset Regal Bank building.

Kushner Companies is a development firm owned by the family of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
