No one saw it coming, but the most dramatic twist of the NJSIAA Group Championships unfolded in Group 1.
In a three-way team battle between Glassboro & No. 8 Hasbrouck Heights, Camden got just enough points from a small group of sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers to win the Group 1 title on Saturday, its first state championship in 20 years.
Camden nearly came away with the Group 2 title last spring, falling just nine points shy to Demarest. That loss served as fuel for a team that returned several of its top sprinters from last year.
