FREEHOLD, N.J. — A Matawan resident has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian in Aberdeen Township, authorities announced.

Sonia N. Gomez, 65, entered a guilty plea on June 27 to one count of second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle fatality. Prosecutors said Gomez struck 58-year-old Judith Fox-Hernandez with her vehicle and failed to stop or report the incident.

The collision occurred on the evening of September 4 at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 2nd Street. When Aberdeen Township Police arrived at the scene, they found Fox-Hernandez in the roadway with serious injuries. She was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where she died weeks later on September 29.
