Mets’ David Peterson masterful in game Brandon Nimmo homered twice

NEW YORK — Left fielder Brandon Nimmo gave Mets fans at Citi Field two reasons to cheer on Tuesday.
The first came with New York leading 3-0 in the fifth inning. Nimmo powered the Mets to a 4-0 lead with a soaring home run over the fence in left field.
At first, the ball looked like it would be caught by the center fielder, who tracked it all the way to the wall and motioned as if to catch it. But the ball landed far beyond his reach, into the hands of a fan 387 feet away.
The second came two innings later, in the seventh inning. This time, Nimmo’s home run was a no-doubter off the bat.
It came on a 1-0 cutter that traveled inside, but Nimmo caught it in front of him, launching it into the second deck in right field to give the Mets a commanding 5-0 lead.
