N.J. man faces life in state prison after being convicted in armed home invasion, fatal crash

A 47-year-old New Jersey man faces up to life in prison after being convicted of committing a home invasion in Long Branch and then causing a fatal crash while fleeing from police.

A jury found Altonia D. Williams guilty of 18 charges, including felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated manslaughter while eluding, and vehicular homicide following a four-week trial, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday afternoon.

Williams, of Long Branch, was high on marijuana when he broke into a home on Narragansett Avenue at 4 a.m. on Aug. 4, 2023 and robbed the occupants at gunpoint, authorities said.

Police tried to pull over Williams as he drove away but he ignored their orders and crashed into a responding patrol vehicle near the intersection of MacArthur and Elmwood Avenues.
