N.J. state police detective fatally shoots man during investigation, authorities say

A New Jersey State Police detective fatally shot a man Tuesday afternoon during an investigation in Camden County, investigators said.

He and another state police detective, both of whom are assigned to the United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, were conducting an investigation involving a man when they found him on Haddon Avenue in the West Berlin section of Berlin Township, according to a statement from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.

One of the detectives fired his gun, striking the man, the office said. The officers then provided first aid until he was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he was pronounced dead at 2:13 p.m.

Investigators recovered a revolver at the scene after the shooting, authorities said.
