Lawmakers in New Jersey are pushing for answers about plans for an immigration detention facility at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Burlington and Ocean counties, but they say military officials at the base are as “in the dark” on the plans as they are.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth alerted the base earlier this month that it could be used to temporarily house immigrants being held by the Department of Homeland Security, but no timetable or details were given for the move.
A defense official told NBC10 that detainees would be housed in temporary soft-sided holding facilities and that “the timeline for these facilities will depend on operational requirements and coordination with DHS.”
