Devin Seth dove for the ball and it bounced just high enough off his racket to get back up and be ready for the incoming volley.
After a short back-and-forth, Morris Hills returned the ball out of bounds on Seth’s side of the court as his Tenafly teammates rejoiced in the grass just behind his side of the fence.
No. 11 Tenafly took a 3-2 win over Morris Hills, achieving its sixth-consecutive North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 title thanks to a brilliant final set from Seth.
“I hit a diving backhand lob and I fell,” Seth said about his match-point shot. “It hurt a lot, but knowing that it would come down to me was what really had me push through and triumph”
The diving shot is not something Seth practices at all, he said. It’s a shot that comes during game time.
