Step Up for The Arc, Ocean County raises $85,000 – Star News Group

LAKEWOOD — The Arc, Ocean County Chapter raised $85,000 for programs and support services for people with disabilities at its 23rd annual Step Up for The Arc walk and 5K race on May 17.

Led by members of The Arc Ocean Wave Riders Special Olympics track and field team, the event drew 700 people to ShoreTown Ballpark, home of the minor league Jersey Shore BlueClaws. Step Up for The Arc is an inclusive community event to raise awareness and acceptance for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. All proceeds support The Arc of Ocean County’s residential, vocational, and family support services.

“This is our most successful Step Up for The Arc ever,” said Laura Williams, executive director. “It’s wonderful to come together with The Arc family and friends for this fun, inclusive event. We couldn’t be more grateful for the support of Ocean County.”

Development coordinator Jasmine Wilker of The Arc, Ocean County, said the organization was thrilled to have reached its goal of $85,000.

“This milestone was achieved through a combination of generous local business sponsorships and the passionate efforts of our fundraising teams,” said Wilker. “Their peer-to-peer campaigns not only met our financial target but also energized our community in the process. Reaching our goal is a testament to the dedication of our supporters and the belief in our mission — it’s truly a community win that directly impacts the lives of the people we serve.”

The event featured games, arts and crafts, face-painting and a marching band.

“Events like this are absolutely essential for The Arc, Ocean County Chapter. Not only do they raise much-needed funds, but they also play a vital role in building awareness and understanding around intellectual and developmental disabilities,” said Wilker.

“What truly stands out is the overwhelming sense of unity. Seeing our clients, their families, our dedicated staff and community members all coming together for this one special day each year is incredibly heartwarming. It feels less like an event and more like a family reunion, where everyone belongs, is celebrated, and contributes to the joy of the day,” said Wilker.
