NEW YORK — During a phone chat with an American League scout on Wednesday, NJ Advance Media asked to name an under-the-radar bullpen arm that could be a good fit for the Yankees.
His response:

An hour after acquiring Pirates closer David Bednar on Thursday, the Yankees swung a trade-deadline day deal with the Rockies for Bird, a 6-foot-3 right-hander who has four seasons of team control after 2025.
Bird, 29, has a high 4.73 ERA over 45 outings this season with 62 strikeouts in 53.1 innings, but it was 2.79 until he allowed 13 runs over five innings in his last seven starts since July 7.
